BQ27X00-TESTER programming issue

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27200

Hello,

I have connected the BQ27X00-TESTER to my current product that has a BQ27200 device populated.  Between the tester and my product, I've wired...

*  PROG to our PGM (pin 10) of BQ27200
*  BAT- to our VSS (pin 3) of BQ27200
*  HDQ/SDA to our SDA (pin 5) of BQ27200
* SCL to our SCL (pin 4) of BQ27200

After doing this, we power on our product, then power up the tester board with an external 10V DC source.  Then we bring up the BQ27X00-TESTER application on a PC and attempt to perform a "READ EEPROM" unsuccessfully.  All registers show "0x5" as their read data, but I see no actual activity on the I2C SCL/SDA lines on an attached scope.

Any ideas what we are doing wrong to not see any I2C activity between TESTER and our BQ27200 platform?

Thanks!
Joe

  • First, can you successfully read from a standalone bq27200EVM using the tester board?

Secondly, do you have I2C pull-ups powered on your system board when you are trying to read?  Are you I2C lines sitting high or low in the scope view?

  • Unfortunately, we do not have an EVM.  We do have pull ups on the I2C lines.  I see the 21V programming pulse on a scope but I see absolutely no transistions on either of the I2C lines.  We are able to successfully communicate on the I2C bus from our own processor that is on the board, and I see the expected activity on those lines with scope probes when doing so.

Is there some initialization in either the test PC app or the BQ27x00-TESTER board that must occur before I2C commands are sent to the BQ27200?

Additionally, I have NOT connected the PACK+/- lines, as I didn't think it was necessary since we are only trying to program the BQ27200.

  • Ok, we were able to come up with a BQ27200EVM.  What is the proper way to setup a BQ27200EVM + BQ27x00-TESTER?

    Thanks,
    Joe

  • Hello Joe,

Can you please follow the connection and guidelines outlined in the User's Guide for the bq27x00 Tester.  That should get you up and running.
