TPS65950 CODEC OUT - How to amplify

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65950

I have a customer that woudl like to amplify the CODEC_OUTL & R signals - message attached.

Are these signals compatible with any of our audio amplifier products? How might one convert these signals to digital (or analog) signals suitabel for amplification using one of our TPAxxxx amplifiers?

Cusotmer is General Dynamics:

As you know, we are using the Logic SOM which utilizes the TPS65950 PMIC.  The SOM routes out (meaning we have access to) the CODEC_OUTL and OUTR signals, which appear to be used for headset audio.  We may have a requirement in the future to drive a standard speaker with these lines.  Unfortunately, the IHF.RIGHT/LEFT.P/M signals are not routed out.How would I drive a speaker using CODEC_OUTL and OUTR?  We would require a “loud” audio output (still working on a spec) which means the signals would definitely need to be amplified.  Any information on how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated.
  • Hi Steve,

I dont have the Logic SOM schematic. It would be helpful if you can specify which output the customer is talking about. There is no pin or pad with this name. Reading the customers email I cannot understand which audio terminals he would be refering to.

Since he has mentioned headset, then I think he is referring to HSOL and HSOR on the PMIC. This output is analog. There are internal gain adjustments, but I guess he has already looked at those and need to amplify more than what is available. I dont know if TPA parts can take analog signals as input, I guess not because they probably are Class-D and need digital inputs (unless some have ADC integrated)

I hope this information helps to some extent and hopefully there is some TI part that takes in analog audio and amplifies.
