Regarding TPS2590's current range.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2590

Hi,

I need to design a circuit board for multi ports load controller. I want to use TPS2590 controlled by micom for its load switching. But when I check its specification I have a significant question about its current range because of its Iflt which minumum setting value is 1A. I guess this means that if out current doen't reach this value, this chip would work in faulty mode. Is it correct?

Since I need very wide range for my application – it would be between 100mA ~ 2A – I have to consider this function. I am not sure if this chip is proper for this application. Would you confirm this?

  • TPS2590 will work in your application. TPS2590 contains an internal MOSFET for which a current limit (ILIM) and fault current limit (IFLT) can be set according to your application. For example, if your maximum expected DC operating current is 2A, then you can set the worst case minimum fault current limit (see explanation in the datasheet) just above 2A. The internal MOSFET will remain ON for currents below 2A including a no load condition.

The ILIM and IFLT current ratings in the electrical characteristics table of the datasheet are specific points for which the current limit and fault limits are tested in production (and for which an accuracy is rated).
