PTR08060W - Inhibit Pin Question

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PTR08060W

Customer has a question on the inhibit pin for the PTR08060W device.

- Can you tell me what the Inhibit pin looks like on this device?  I’m trying to incorporate a soft start and wanted to utilize the inhibit pin.  Can you advise what circuitry is connected internally?  Is it driving the gate of a MOSFET, etc?  A simple approach I was thinking was to add an RC directly to the pin.  But when the input power is removed, I was worried the cap may discharge into the inhibit pin.

  • PTR08060W inhibit must controlled only by an open drain device with no pullup resistor or  voltage.

The normal soft start function when power is applied or the  inhibit pin open  duration to 3.3V is about  4msec. Adding any capacitor to the inhibit pin will only delay power on function .The additional component to ground  will not change the normally soft power-up dv/dt. It will still be about 4mS as listed in the specification under on-off inhibit or normal power up.

  • Can the INhibit pin of the PTN78060 regulator be driven with a resistor divider that either applies 0 volts or 2.5 volts?  The datasheet states that the absolute maximum for the inhibit pin is 5 volts.

  • PTR08060 inhibit pin must either  be open or controlled by an open drain FET. The inhibit  has its own internal pullup voltage.

Do not connect  the inhibit pin  to either a pull-up voltage or another module's inhibit pin .
