8A pulsed LED drive

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM3410

I have a design needing to pulse a medical LED, 1.0-2.5Vf, at 8Amps.
100Hz to 10kHz, 50% duty cycle.
Power is from a high amp hour LiIon cell, 3-4.2V.

Do you have any ideas for achieving this high current pulse?

A 22F supercap is being considered to provide holdup for the LED driver during the pulses.

  • We only have one part which work from single cell Li batteries and it is an integrated FET device which is not capable of 8A.  LM3410.  We have some DLP/projector parts which made for this kind of performance (LM3433/34), but they need negative rail.

Also with the super cap…not sure that would help, their ESR can be very high.
