bq24032A, bq27200 and Reverse Current/Battery Protection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27200, BQ24032A

Hello all,

I have a cylindrical Li-ion battery that can easily be installed backwards.  I am trying to adapt a circuit design that has a charger (bq24032a) and a battery fuel guage (bq27200).

Can anyone shed some light on whether a protection mechanism (PFET) is really needed?  The charger datasheet (http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/bq24032a.pdf)  mentions that it has reverse current protection as one of the features, but it does not give any details.

How would the fuel gauge react if the battery is inserted backwards?

Any hints or ideas greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

A
