Quad Port PSE Using TPS23841PAPR

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS23841

Hi all

I have use in my design a QuadPort PSE TPS23841PAPR for power 4 device @ 12W for port (tot 48W).

TPS23841PAPR can power up 12W for port?

Datasheet seems that it can support 25W but is not clear if  can support 25W for each single port or for total 4 port (25/4=6.25W for port?).

I came this question because in the maximum absorption (12W for channel) component overheats (~60°c  @ free air), I did not expect heat up so much.

Many thanks

M.

  • TPS23841 can sink up to ICUT = 0.615A (typical) per port which translates to ~2.58W device power dissipation for 4 ports (including bias and quiescent dissipation). Theta JA is specified at 21.47C/W so you would see a 2.58W x 21.47C/W = 55.4C temperature rise ambient to junction.

This device has a power pad (down for PAP), and you will need to connect the pad thermally to good PCB copper using thermal vias as shown in the datasheet and SLMA002.
