Dear Sir

I am working on tps40210

input Voltage =9.9 to 12.60 volt Dc

Output Voltage= 18.85 volt

Your product is designed for 4.7 Amp i want to use it for 7 to 8 Amp continuous current

can  you suggest any solution for this??

Regards

Tanvi Verma

  • Hi Tanvi,

With 7 to 8 Amp continuous output current the power loss in the schottky diode will be very large and it may get too hot. Assuming 700mV forward voltage drop, this is 0.7V * 8A = 5.6. I recommend looking into a synchronous solution and I suggest looking at the TPS43061. I'll let you know if I have a good example to share.

Also in the future I recommend using a more descriptive title for posts. Especially if there is a specific part number it is good to include it to catch the attention of the right applications engineer.

    Best Regards,
    Anthony

  • I am going to change my recommendation to the TPS43060 because it uses a higher voltage gate drive. This allows use of a bigger FET with lower RDson to further reduce power loss. The key for high power designs is to reduce power loss as much as possible to make sure the components are not operating at too high of a temperature. As such lower switching is preferred to reduce switching losses and it may also be needed to use two FETs in parallel. The TPS43060EVM-199 can be used to evaluate your design without parallel FETs.

  • Dear Sir

Thanks for your reply. Sir this Ic is QFN package, is their is any alternative for same in tssop and Soic packaging

  • For a TSSOP package, you might find the LM5122 of interest.
