The datasheet states that the nCHG only goes low on the first charge. The part that is confusing us is whether or not removing the battery resets the 1st charge. In other words, if we charged a battery fully (ie the first charge) and then removed the battery and replaced it with another battery (which may be discharged, fully charged, or anywhere in between) what does the LED do? Does it reset and toggle to indicate charging, or does it treat the new battery as the 2nd charge?
Here is the exact wording from the BQ24090 spec (page 17):
Cycling input power, pulling the TS pin low and releasing or entering pre-charge mode causes the CHG pin to go reset (go low if power is good and a discharged battery is attached) and is considered the start of a first charge.
As you can see, there is no reference to a new battery being inserted. At the same time, page 20 mentions the following:
When coming out of TTDM, the battery detect routine is run and if a battery is detected, then a new charge cycle begins and the CHG LED turns on.
This seems to imply that a battery insertion would toggle the CHG LED. Can you please help clarify.
