TPS40170 Question Regarding Cldrv

I am implementing a cost-reduced version of this DC-DC converter with Vin = 21 to 52 VDC and Vout = 5.0V @ 3.5A.  My original design used a Cldrv of 1.0 nF and Rscp of 10.0 Mohm on the bottom FET.  The new design uses Cldrv of 1.2 nF and Rscp of 10 Kohm.  Is it OK to keep Cldrv at 1.0 nF?

  • Here is the original design:

  • Hi Harold,

I do not expect any issues with these changes. I am assuming Cldrv is a capacitor on the gate drive of the low-side FET. Instead of changing Rscp to 10k you could also completely remove the resistor. This will keep the SCP threshold the same as with 10MEG.

Did you mean to share your schematics with your second post? If so they didn't come up right. If you want you can email them directly to me.

    Best Regards,
    Anthony
