Hi,

I am using PTN7800WAH regulator with 24V input & 6V output by using 13k adjustable resistance. It is mentioned in the datasheet that 2.2uF ceramic capacitor at input pin & 100uF electrolytic capacitor at output load side is required. Is 2.2uF capacitor & 100uF capoacitor is mandatory requirement ? If I dont use this capacitor what will be the expected result of this regulator ?

PTN78000WAH and all other PTN78 series modules require minimum input ceramic capacitance and output polarized output capacitance. The unit can be very unstable and possibly oscillate if the minimum capacitance is not applied.

Within the product specification in the application notes (page 17) under recommmended input and output capacitors there are numerous vendors listed for these capacitors.

PTN series was introduced 8 years ago. This is a very popular module. There is no life time data on presently manufactured products.

TI recently released TPS84250 which has the same voltage ranges with up to 2.5A load with internal inductor.
