My customer has the below problem on his board, when he says backup he measn the back battery for the RTC on the TPS65930. Also the below does not happen when the PMIC is in slave mode. They have 2 PMIC devices one master and the other slave. I have read teh TRM adn the backup battery for the RTC should not effect anything with the power up of the device. The urgency is because he likes to finish his board design by Thursday and he needs to either have a work around or see what is the issue.
We have built up several boards with OMAP3530s and TPS65930s and one of the problems we are noticing is that the OMAP won’t boot in master mode if the backup battery is deeply discharged or dead. It will boot if the backup battery is in the correct voltage range or if there is no backup battery at all. It looks like there is a specific window where if the backup battery is providing some voltage, but is discharged beyond the expected range, the unit fails to boot. Obviously, we would rather have the unit still boot with a dead backup battery even if it means the RTC would not be held up.
I was wondering if you know of anyone else who has seen this issue with the TPS65930s or if there is an errata on it and it may be fixed on a respin of the silicon.
We have a respin of this board soon and I need to know if I should try to fix this externally to the OMAP/PMIC or if there are plans for TI to fix it in the silicon.
I know it’s a short window, but to catch this respin, I need an answer by Thursday at the latest. (preferably by tomorrow)
Thanks
