Bq20z80 Wake Up state

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ20Z80, BQ29312A

Hi

Can anyone explain what the "wake up " state is? And how can it be cleared, slua380 shows it on table 11 "state code manufacture status" but that is it. The battery is fine but I don't get the usual "normal discharge"message so the system software reports battery failure. Is there a command to clear or wake up the bq20z80 chip? Very frustrating can anyone help, please.

Regards,

Mike

  • Hi Mike,

The "Wake Up" state is more like a "coming out of shutdown" state.   The device goes into shutdown when the pack voltage gets to a level (Shutdown Voltage) where to discharge the pack any further would go below the recommend low cell voltages.   In shutdown mode, the bq29312A front end removes power from the guage.    To exit shutdown, the voltage must rise above the Shutdown Voltage setting while the discharge current is zero.  The second option to exit shutdown mode is to have a charger detected (Charger Present thresehold).

As the device is leaving shutdown, it goes into the Wake Up state.    The BQ29312A returns power to the BQ20z80 and the bq29312A is configured.  It takes about 1 second for the "Wake" flag to be cleared and the "INIT" flag to be set.  During this time, the SBS parameters are measured and updated.   This information is covered in section 2.6.4 on page 55 of the Technical Reference Manual (SLUU276).

Please make sure your settings for Shutdown Voltage are correct so you down enter this mode uneccessarily.  If you used the bqEASY configuration software for generating your settings, it should have configured this for you.

If you do enter the "Wake Up" state, it will take about 1 second to get through it.
