Negative power supply

I need to supply an amplifier with -5V. My board space is very limited. I need to produce -5V from +5V or +7V or +24V. Output current requirement is very low; it will only supply the amplifier which may be a few mAmps the most. Which part and/or ref. design can you offer me? Thanks.

  • Hi Mustafa,

We've received your request and will get back to you shortly.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Mustafa,

The easiest method is to use a capacitive charge pump to convert +5V to -5V (not really regulated).

A second technique that gives the lowest output ripple and true regulation is to use a Cuk converter using a device such as LM2611A, to convert from +5V to -5V.

A third technique is the conventional inverting buck-boost using a buck regulator IC such as LM2840X. Refer to app note AN2027 for application hints.

    Thanks,

    Anston
