USB charger: Recommended handling of unused data lines

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24160

Our device is not a USB device, but it charges from USB. Is there recommended practice for terminating the data lines? Eg tie them down, tie them together, leave them floating.

I know that some USB upstream ports will supply different current based upon some discussion it has with a newly-connected device, but our device does not even speak USB, and we can comfortably ignore such features.

  • Hello Aleksander,

    What device are you using?

There are a few posts in this forum that discuss what to do with the USB data lines for various devices such as the BQ24160:

If you know which device you are planning on using the proper treatment of the unused data lines can be determined.
