BQ24450 pass transistor

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24450

Hello,

Can somebody explain the importance of meeting the minimum VCE requirement (0.6V for Common emitter PNP)?

How will it impact my circuit if I cant meet this limit?

Input : 24-29V adaptor output

Output : 18AH 24 V battery

I max= 2.25A (C/8)

Transistor selected : 2STA1943 (STM)

  • The drop from the emitter to collector of the pass transistor will be up to 0.5V so if one does not want to go into drop out, then the input should be greater than the battery voltage by >0.5V.

    If the drop is less than this the CC will roll off.

  • Thanks Charles.That question has been resolved.

    Another Question though,what will happen if I plug in the Charging source at one end without pluggin in the battery at the other end? Will the voltage at the collector continue to rise in the absence of a battery ?

    In my application :

    DC IN -->> BQ24450 (BATTERY) -->> LOAD

    If theres no battery in the circuit,how will the IC behave with a load(24V,1A) connected at the collector.

    Kindly throw some light.
