TPS62237 output current

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS62080

Hello,

I'm trying to understand maximum steady state output current for the TPS62237.

The data sheet specifies 500mA peak current.

What does 'peak' refer to?

What is the maximum output current I can work with this step-down in steady state operation, meaning supplying current to my 3.3V system for long (>2 hours) periods of time?

Help is much appreciated,

Benny.

  • Page 3 of the D/S describes the output current capability of the device based on the input voltage.

  • Hi Benny,

To add a fuller answer for others on this forum, the output current you can get depends entirely on the operating conditions, which include temperature, Vin, Vout, etc.  Page 3 gives a guideline at our recommendation for how much current you should expect to get at various operating points.  It is mainly limited by the Rdson of the high-side FET which increases with temperature.

Since you are asking about the 3.3Vout version of this IC, I assume that you have a 5V input voltage.  You can get 500 mA at this operating point.

If more current is needed, I recommend the TPS62080 which can deliver 1.2A.
