RX coil heats up

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24079T

Hi,

Im using BQ51013ARHL for our wireless solution. However during charging (actually while it stays on the pad, even when the charging is finished) RX ciol becomes extremely hot. Since its close by the battery Im afraid at some point it will make battery explode. Any idea what could be the problem?

We are using BQ24079T as a battery charger for 4.1V liIon battery and further TPS77833 to convert to system 3.3V power.

Thanks,

Sergey

  • Im using BQ51013ARHL as a receiver for wireless charging, BQ24079T receives power 5V from it to charge LiIon battery at 4.2V and finally it connects to TPS77833 LDO to provide 3.3V output to the system.

hovewer during charging especially RX coil becomes extremely hot. When the board is not packed into casing its still ok, but once I put it into casing it becomes extremely hot very fast. Any idea what could be the case?

    Thanks,

    Sergey

  • Hi,

Does the coil itself is getting hot or the battery back is getting hot. I think the battery frame is made of metal and is not shielded properly and get exposed to field thus it absorbs the energy from the Tx.

    Thanks
