24 VDC SLA battery and BQ24450IC

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24450, UC3906

All,

I want to charge a 24 Volt SLA battery ( 2 X Power Sonic 1270 in series) using the dual level technique as described in the data sheet. I am going to set I max to 600 mA. I was confused by the product selector that the maximum number of cells is 4. I don't understand the limit on the number of cells

  • Did you ever get an answer to your question? I posted basically the smae question except I wanted to use the BQ24450 for a 12V battery and I saw the same thing in the product selector.

  • Jim,

No I sure did not. I am confused by the limitation on the number of cells in the product selector. The UC 3906 does not appear to have the limitation on the number of cells. There is an application not on Vicor's website entitled " High Efficiency Battery Charging using Power Components" Application Note TPB101 that I am looking at. I think using the methodology they describe ( If I could figure out how it works) it would not matter if you used the UC3906 or BQ24450.

    Sincerely,

    Daniel
