What are the failure mode of the LM2678S-ADJ?

Is it possible that the input pin (Vin pin 2) short the input voltage to the ground? What is the probability?

What damage can be caused by an overvoltage condition at the input?

What is the sensitivity to transient voltage at the input.

    As with any I.C., when you exceed the absolute maximum voltages, found in the data sheet,

    the device may be damaged.  We do not garuantee operation, or mis-operation, at voltages exceeding

    the absolute maximum ratings.  It is possible that the input could open or short when these levels are exceeded.

    Wether the voltages, and/or currents, are steady or transient, the levels must be within the limits given in the data sheet.

    for proper operation.
