BQ27200 Freezes during operation

Hi,

I am using the BQ27200 chip with a PIC18F to read the SoC. The problem I had was the BQ would work for a bit and then freeze from time to time and I couldn't figure out why. I eventually changed the clock frequency of the PIC from 16MHz to 4MHz and this seems to have solved the problem. I was wondering if anyone had any explanation why this would have cleared the error?

Peter,

Are you polling the gauge at 16MHz? If so, that is the problem. There is no reason to poll the gauge more than twice a second, since parameters only update once a second. Polling the gauge at such a high rate can cause it to lock up since it is constantly servicing the communication engine.

Hi Chase,

Thanks for your reply. That does seem to have been the problem. I re-read the data sheet and found that it says maximum update rate of any value is 1.28s, which I had previously missed.
