TPS53355/TPS53353 shutting down after power up

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS53355, TPS53353

Hi all,

I'm trying to figure out why my TPS53355 switching power supply is shutting down about a second after giving it voltage. On the output from the LL pins, I can see that its switching using an oscilloscope, but it then shuts down. No voltage ever seems to get to the output pins during this short duration.

The design I used was from WEBENCH, which is supposed to take 10-15 V down to 5 V and able to supply 20A (3A each output). The only thing I can think of is that there may be a layout issue. Could high frequency noise be causing it to shutdown? Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance

  • Hi Kyle,

I have a similar with the experience with this part. I have been trying to use TPS53353 for a 5V 14A regulator where VIN=12V. For me, the chip works great for load currents up to 3.85A. But when I tried increasing the load beyond that, the regulator output voltage fails. The chip's internal LDO regulator (VREG) drops below its UVLO threshold. I made sure to follow the layout guidelines as much as possible and get the decoupling capacitors as close to the TPS53353 as possible but no luck.

I'm abandoning this part, and I'll re-design the board using something else.
