Hi TI team,
I need some help in selecting Li-ion battery charger . I am designing an analog board which requires +5V and -5V. The board shall be powered ON from 230V AC and there should be provision for powering ON the board from ON board battery also.
I am using an AC adaptor which gives +12V DC. I am using 2 lithium-ion batteries(4.2V) in series which gives 8.4V and then will use buck converter for deriving +5V. Now, my requirement is to select a battery charger for charging 2 litium-ion batteries. So, please suggest me a battery charger which meets this requirement. OR is it good practice to use single battery and single battery charger and then use a boost converter for deriving +5V from battery's 3.7V or suggest any alternative. Maximum current derived for +5V would be 1A.

Two cells is easiest since you have a 12V adapter.

Look at bq2417x (x=0, 1,2) and bq2412x (3/5), bq24600, bq24610.

Hi Charles,

Thanks for your reply. I have one more query regarding connecting two batteries in series. I will connect -ve terminal of one battery to +ve terminal of other battery. But, what about the third terminal(thermistor) in battery. Should i short them together and connect to TS pin or how should that be?

Typically one end of the thermistor is connected to the negative end of the battery so the thermsitor wire that comes out connects to the TS pin and when the ground side of the battery is connected the thermistor is then connected between TS and GND.
