BQ51013A and BQ500211 Problem

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ51013B, BQ51013A, BQ500211

Hi!

I tried to make my own “bq51013AEVM-765 Evaluation Module”, but it doesn’t work. I used the same schematic as in the evaluation module and tried to use the same layout.
When I connect the transmitter to 5V, one LED lights up and there is a short signal on the coil every 400ms. But the receiver does nothing. There is no output voltage, or other signals.
When I tried to check the receiver, I connected 5V to the “J1 – AD External Adapter Input, J2-GND” pins. But nothing happened. The LED doesn’t light up. There is no signal to the MOSFETS.
I don’t know what’s wrong. Could it be the IC? Is it better to replace the BQ51013A with the BQ51013B?

Thanks and best regards,
Philipp

  • Hi,

Did you change the coil? If so please tune the resonant caps accordingly.

     Thanks!

  • Hi.

I used the 3737 coil for the receiver and the A11 for the transmitter.

Is it a wrong coil or is there a better coil? I don't have other coils at home to test them.

    Thanks!!

  • Does anyone have an idea how i could test the receiver or the transmitter separately?

  • please tune the resonant caps acording to this coil.

    Thanks

    Tahar

  • Hello Tahar,

Thanks for your answer! I tuned the resonant caps from the receiver according to my coil.

    Are these formulas correct?
Do I have to tune the transmitter resonant caps too?

On one side of the receiver coil, I can see a signal every 400ms. There is another signal every 5sec (green curve).
There is also a low noise, like "peep", with the signal every 5sec.
The signal, which is normaly every 5sec, changes its interval when I move the receiver coil a bit.

The yellow curve shows the output from the receiver. You can see, there is a output voltage between 200mV and 500mV every 5sec.

Sorry for the bad picture, I have forgotten my usb-stick at home, so I can't save the picture from the scope.

Does anyone have an idea whats wrong?

    Best Regards

    Philipp

  •

Philipp--are both the RX and TX your new designs?  Do you have a bq500211 TX EVM?

What we see in the above pic is Analog Ping every 400mS and Digital Ping every 5 Sec this is normal for a transmitter in stand-by, NO RX detected.

When the RX is detected the TX will send the longer Digital Ping and look for the RX to respond will a communications packet. If the RX does not send the packet OR TX cannot decode the packet TX goes back into standby.

  • Yes, RX and TX are my new designs. No, I haven't got a BQ500211EVM.

I used the schematic from the bq51013AEVM-765 Evaluation Module for the receiver.

And for the transmitter, I used this schematic:
    http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sluu987/sluu987.pdf

First I used the BQ51013A for the receiver. Then i replaced the BQ51013A by the BQ51013B.
    Wasn't this a good idea?

    Thank you and Best Regards
    Philipp

  • If both are new designs you can have problems with both RX and TX that is preventing operation.

You to try to test the TX by placing a metal object on the pad and look for TX to send a digital ping, 70mSec pulse.  A reduction of 10% in the analog ping pulse should trigger a digital ping.

The Receiver should respond with signal strength, ID and Configuration Packet.  See figure 6 of bq51013A EVM.
