reverse current problem

Hello,

My design includes 2 TI DC/DC power modules (PTH08T250WAD, PTH08T230WAD).

The outputs of these modules are connected to special power taps to enable us to feed the board with an external power supplies, instead of the PTH modules.

The load's high current requirement doesn't allow me to put a shottky diode at the PS output, due to high DC drop.

My question is - if I use the the external supply option, is there a problem with reverse current:

 - in case the PTH is disabled (forcing the enable pin to '0') and Vin=12V

 - in case the PTH Vin=0V

Thanks,

Tomer

  • There can be major issues affecting the  power modules integrity when using an external  voltage source on the output bus.

Any voltage applied to the Vout bus can or will overstress the converter. The  reverse output current  can  or will overstress the converter.
