BQ24630 1-Cell Low Current

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24630

Hello,

i use the bq24630 as 1-cell charger with the benefits of the Power Path. I designed a Charger Circuit for 2-Cells, so i know how the IC works.

The 2-Cell worked with 24V VCC. Now i havefor the new 1-Cell design only 5V. According to the datasheet it should working well with 5V, too.

But the charging Current is at 5V around 50mA, thats to low. Because i set ISET1 to 500mA charging current and ACSET to 1A.

I measured  HDRV and the duty cycle is very high, over 95% and the LDRV duty cycle was under 5%. Are these measurements and values correct or the IC doesnt work well with this Low VCC of 5V?

  • Is the high side drive turning on fully? what is the REGN voltage?

  • It was a designing Problem. I recommend as many other People, the design is 1 of the most important characteristic to get a working well IC.

    But i got another question:

I still work with 5V Supply to charge 1 Cell. But i measured that the BATDRV~ Voltage not drops down to VCC-6V, but stands at 1V if run at the battery. In this case this 1V at the Gate of Q3(BATFET), let the MOSFET not open fully, so i loose 0,3V at Drain-Source.

Is it normal or do i have to get other conditions to get the MSOFET fully open?
