BQ27541 alternate

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27541-V200, BQ27545-G1

We’re currently using the TI BQ27541-V200 battery fuel gauge but I would like to explore other options for something that is simpler to setup.  Currently we’re using a golden image, then we have to calibrate the gauge to the specific cell that we’re going to use in the system.  It would be nice if we didn’t have to do the cal process, and instead just program a few registers with new cell capacity, voltage, number of cells, and chemistry.  I’d be willing to sacrifice some accuracy if we could simplify the setup.

Any thoughts on parts that might be better for our application?  It’d be nice to retain the impedance track feature.

  • Hi Calum,

The BQ27545-G1 is a very similar device that has higher max battery capacity. Programming however is similar to the BQ27541-V200. Non-Impedance Track devices will require more micro control. Can you tell me what parameters are of importance for this application?...Single Cell? Li-Ion and Li-Polymer?, HDQ/I2C comm?, Battery capacity max/min?, Pack Side Only?, SHA-1 Auth.?, Package?, Cost?

  • Hi Calum,

We do not have any pack side gauges that are easy to configure. The idea is that the battery manufacturer should be configuring these files for you.

Have you looked at our offering of system side fuel gauges? We have the bq27425, bq27421, and the bq27621 that are low end, but easy to use gauges.

    Thanks,
