BQ34z110 used to batteries larger than 65Ah and charge currents larger than 32A

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z110

Hello to everyone

I intend to use the BQ34z110 in a new product  to monitoring batteries bank that we are developing. But we have some doubts.

Its possible use the BQ34z110  in batteries bank with 1000 and 2000Ah?

Could be used with charge currents around 250 or 500Amps?

I would appreciate some opinions, especially from the guys of texas instruments.

Thanks in advance, best regards

  • Romeu,

The capacity registers can support up to 32Ah, so you will have to scale the current and capacities for your application. The voltage across the current sense interface should be limited to 125mV for the measurement system, so you would have to use a 250 uohm sense resistor to support 500A. That is a very small sense resistor. You could potentially use a hall sensor interface to translate the current to a voltage instead of using a sense resistor.

  • Thank you very much for the reply Thomas.

So, the BQ34z110 its suitable for integration in our new product, its good.

If I understand, if I am using a batteries bank with 1000Ah and I define a in the BQ34z110 a capacity of 10 Ah (10000mAh). I have to do the same to the other variables (e.g charge/discharge current), divided by 100 right?

I will  starting working with BQ34z110, I am newbie in this issue.

Once again thanks for your help.

  • Romeu,

All current and capacity parameters will have to be scaled by the same amount.

  • Thanks Tom, it was a very useful clarification for my doubts.
