Searching for a 5V boost that works with LiFePo4 and LiIon

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61027

Hi-

I'm looking around for a boost circuit that can take the input from a LiFePo4 (2V - 3.6V) or a LiIon (3V - 4.2V) and generate a 5V rail capable of supplying at least 800mA, but ideally 1.5A of load current.  I started  with looking at the TPS61027 but I found that their output current specs fall to below 800mA when the input voltage decreases down to 2V.  Otherwise those parts would be great!  As this is a battery powered application, efficiency is important too but based on my initial search, it might be hard to find anything that does what I need.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a part I should check out?

Thanks!

Dave

  • Hello Dave,

What is the capacity of the batteyr that you want to pull from? I ask because there might also be a limit placed on the system by the discharge rate of the battery if the capacity is smaller.

You could look at the TPS6103x which is capable of higher currents at those lower votlages. However the efficiency gets to be in the low 90s.
