LM5116's output current limit

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5116

Dear All,

Please teach us how much output current does LM5116 support until?

We could simulate LM5116 at a condition of 6A in Webench, but couldn't over 7A.

Our customer want to perform the following condition to using LM5116.

Vinput:100V/Voutput:33V/Ioutput:10A

Best Regards,

  • Hi

Since the absolute maximum rating of LM5116's SW pin is 100V, the maximum input voltage should be lower than 100V with a margin. Assuming 10V switching spike at SW node, the maximum input voltage can be 90V (100V-10V=90V)

Since LM5116 is a controller, there is no strict limit of output current capability, but practically we can say 20A is the maximum.

Maximum power rating is a function of efficiency and thermal capability. If your board design can handle 10W power loss and the efficiency of your converter is 90%. Theoretically, the maximum power rating is 100W ( 100W *10% loss = 10W)
