How to use of TPS43061, as Vin ≒ Vout.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS43061

Dear All,

Please teach us how to use of TPS43061, in Vin ≒ Vout situation.

Even the situation that Vin is beyond Vout, can TPS43061 continue working?

Customer wants to use TPS43061 on the following conditions.

Vin :6~8.4V

Vout :Vin~15V (Adjustable)

Customer thinks about a TPS43061's surround circuit with adjustable Vout,

but the situation to become Vin>Vout partially may occur.

Because TPS43061 cannot perform Duty100% (Max95%),

We think the relations of Vout ≧ Vin is not to be recommend.

Customer thinks that constitution of Vout ≒ Vin is possible when it is

by inserting a diode parallel to the High Side FET of neighboring circuits.

Do you think that this method is effective?

  • Hi Tsuguhiko,

If VIN is greater than VOUT the TPS43061 can continue to work, however as it approaches 100% duty cycle the high-side FET may stop turning on due to insufficient charge on the BOOT capacitor. However if this happens the body diode of the high-side FET will still work as the high-side switch and the TPS43061 will still regulate the output. To reduce power losses in this situation a schottky diode with a lower forward voltage drop could be placed in parallel with the high-side FET. If VIN is higher than VOUT the TPS43061 will stop regulating the output and the output will be VIN - Vd, where Vd is the voltage drop across the body diode of the high-side FET or if added the parallel schottky diode.

Let me know if there are any more questions.

    Best Regards,
    Anthony
