TPS65920 - Power consumption when not using certain domains

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65920, TPS65930, TPS65950

Hi,

my customer is using the TPS65920 with the following domains only!

  - Smart reflex dynamic voltage management

-          USB FS Transceivers

          - in slow sampling rate-          1X MADC

-             - Keypad interface (3x3)

any chance we can help him to calculate the PMU power consumption?

Do  we have a table with the PMU internal peripherals power consumption?

         Thanks!

        Amit

  • My customer is also asking how to evaluate the power reduction when not using some of the TPS65920 functionnalities.

Is there anything we can provide them on this topic?

    Customer's description:

    "

I'm using the TPS65920 as companion IC for OMAP 35X.

I need to calculate the peak current consumption in order to design my power supply

(The application is not powered by a standard battery).

I wanted to know if the TPS65920 internal supply peak current will be as stated in table 4-1 in the TPS65920 data sheet.

Since I'm not using the BCI or the audio features (obviously since it’s the TPS65920 and not the TPS65930).

And I'm planning to use the USB PHY at FS (not HS).

Can I expect a lower current consumption from the TPS65920 internal circuits?

If so how do I quantify these reductions?

    "

  • Thiery,

We do not have specific tools and boards where we can categorize each use case. Table 4-1 is the best way your customer can calculate the peak current requirement.

He cannot ignore the internal LDO currents like - VINTANA1, VINTANA2 and VINTDIG. It is not possible to isolate the consumption for different modules.

    Amit,

As said earlier, we do not have any tools to calculate currents for individual use cases. The maximum and minimum currents will be the only parameters to calculate the consumption values.

  • Hi Gandhar,

Does TPS65930 has USB OTG PHY Inbuilt? I see an interface called CEA Carkit interface. Is this USB PHY?

  • Hi Rohith,

Yes, it has the same PHY that is in TPS65950.
