TPS61201 vs. TPS61025 efficiency

Hi Chris,

this is an old topic, I am evaluating using TPS61200 to replace TPS61020, compare 1.8V input and 3.3V output.

TPS61025 is way higher than TPS61201. are these charts represent real performance? it is hard for me to make decision to lose 20% efficiency. any suggestions.

    Yes, the curves in the D/S are measured.

    The TPS61025 is more efficient but requires a larger solution size as well as needing ESR in the output cap.

    If you have a lower output current, then I recommend the TPS61261 or TPS61070 devices over either of these two ICs.

    thank you for answer my question. our current patten is fluctuate, most of the time is only few mA. but some time ( less than 10% could go upto 100mA, may be 150mA. I am not sure I can use TPS61261.  attached is a current chart measured at 1.5V input side. our output voltage is 3.8V, so this chart devide by 2.5 will be output current.

  • It's best if you can define how much current your load will need before you design its power supply.

    Even if it needs 150 mA, the TPS61070 can deliver this much and would be the simplest choice.
