12V input for TPS65070

Dear PMU team,

I'd like to power an OMAP-L138 based design through the TPS65070. The system is powered by a 12V battery. From the data sheet it is not quite clear whether I can connect the 12V supply directly to the AC pin converting internally to a 5-6V VSYS which in turn can be used to input to VINDCDC and VINLDO. Would this be possible, or do I need to convert the 12V to 5V externally with an additional DC/DC converter to power the TPS65070?

Any clarification would be highly appreciated.

You need to convert your 12V input to 5V before connecting it to the TPS65070 inputs. You might consider the TPS54620 for this function. Note that the 20V input rating on the TPS65070 AC pin is for transient protection only.

Seen from the datasheet of TPS65070, the input range of Vin should be up to 17V.

Do you mean the 17V is only for transent protection, the acutal maximum input should be 5.8v ?
