bq27541-G1 lost connection at firmware programming

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27541-G1, BQ27541

Hello,

we have some defective Battery units with the gas gauge bq27541-G1.

The communication over I2C is lost.

Is there any way to get an access to the device?

Like a bootloader or so.

I think there was an programming error during downloading the firmware with

our own programmer.

Best regards

Martin

  • If communication or power is interrupted while the device is being reprogrammed, then it's pretty likely that the chip has been rendered unusable; there is a bootloader (boot ROM mode) but doesn't work when a firmware update gets interrupted early. Your only choice, unfortunately, is to replace the bq27541 chip altogether.

  • I'm afraid that it is so

  • Jason is pretty much correct.  However, one other thing you can check is whether the devices will respond to I2C device address 0x16 or not.  When running firmware normally, it should respond at address 0xAA.  However if they are in ROM mode for some reason, they would respond at address 0x16.  If they are in ROM mode, you could try to reprogram them.  If they respond to neither address then the IC is bricked.
