UCD9012x and Fusion Software Requests

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCD90124

I would like to provide some feedback for the UCD9012x line of devices and the associated Fusion software.  I think the following capabilities need to be implemented in the software and any future multi-function supervisory chips:

1.  Fix software to allow enabling of Watchdog WDI/WDO as defined in the datasheet.

2.  Allow GPI transition to be recorded into the fault log (ie. Fault output from power supply connected as GPI).

3.  Show rail selector pulldown on the "Other Config" tab.  It's not clear to the user that the values on that page are based on the rail that was last selected on the "Vout Config" tab.  Alternate would be to put these values on the "Vout Config" tab.

4.  Provide a way to monitor a clock or some divided down clock value with the necessary scaling factors.  Provide warning and error thresholds as with other inputs.

5.  Allow a GPO to turn on and latch as an option in the logic configuration for a GPO.  It could be reset with a software write or the configured latch reset input pin.

If any these functions are currently available, please advise me how to implement them in the Fusion application.

Thank you,

Shawn

  • Shawn,

thank you for the valuable feedback.  Some of these are definitely new feature requests and others are in progress.  Some comments that might help:

    1.  Fix software to allow enabling of Watchdog WDI/WDO as defined in the datasheet.
This is underway, and we hope to have it implemented in 3-4 weeks.

    2.  Allow GPI transition to be recorded into the fault log (ie. Fault output from power supply connected as GPI).
Good feedback.  For the UCD9012x, there is a way to "fake" this.  You can route your power supply fault output to a MONx input rather than a GPI.  Then, set the UV/OV thresholds for that rail to the appropriate logic levels such that a state transition on this input is detected as a "fault."

    3.  Show rail selector pulldown on the "Other Config" tab.  It's not clear to the user that the values on that page are based on the rail that was last selected on the "Vout Config" tab.  Alternate would be to put these values on the "Vout Config" tab.
Actually, this feature is there. What version of Fusion are you using?

    5.  Allow a GPO to turn on and latch as an option in the logic configuration for a GPO.  It could be reset with a software write or the configured latch reset input pin.
We have this depending upon the logic you are using for your GPO.   When you configure the GPO, the BOOLEAN logic builder comes up.  You will notice in the rail/fan status pulldown that there are fault types with and without the word "latch."  If you choose the latch status, the GPO will latch with the status(es) you've selected.

Hope this helps and thanks again for the feedback.

  • Jeff,

Thank you for the reply.  I will try the GPI solution that you mentioned.  Hopefully you can enable that feature for standard GPIs in the future.

I just downloaded and installed version 1.7.33 dated October 25, 2009.  What is the current version?  Where should I be downloading it from?

You didn't comment on item #4.  Can a scaled-down clock be put into a GPI and be monitored as a fan tach input?

    Please advise,

    Shawn

  • We are planning to post a newer version of the GUI tonight.  Please look for it tomorrow.  It adds some minor functionality.

On #4, you bring up an interesting idea.  The UCD90124 checks for transitions on the fan tach input every 100us, so if that can keep up with your scaled down clock input, it might work.  The EVM should have enough hooks in place for you to try this out.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

  • Additional Comments:

    1. Monitor --> Show/Hide Plots should gray out selections that are not configured under Configure -> Pin Assignment.
    2. Monitor Page should allow monitoring of all voltages on either the same or different graphs.  Currently only one voltage (and associated current, power, or temp) can be shown at a time.
    3. Configure --> Vout Config --> Select Rail to Edit --> Unchecking the box on this tab hides the window, but checking it does not bring it back.
    4. It should crash less.

    Thanks!

    Shawn

  • Good feedback again on #1 and #2 above.  Thanks.

We're working on #3.  For #4, please, please, please send us your crash reports when this happens.  Sometimes, it is a Windows crash, and sometimes it is a GUI crash that gives you the option to copy to clipboard.  In the case of the latter, it should  also should give you an email alias to send those reports to.  Our GUI developers will look at them and fix them.  If you do send the email, please also include the project file and a brief description of what you were doing when you experienced the crash.  This will help us to replicate it.

If you can't find the email address, just send it to your TI sales or FAE contacts and they can forward it to us.

    Thanks!
