Authenticity of components

Hello TI team

I use several kind of TI's linear regulators from long time and had never issues with them. Recently I've bought ICs from a new source and around 5% of them just don't work. I suspect ICs may be counterfeits, because they look slighty different than those i had been buying before (font size, shape of metal substrate).

Before making further steps I want to be sure provenance of the components.

Here some data:

LM1941CS - they are marked JM11RD LM1941CS P+
I don't possess reel anymore, but wrote down LOT: EMAC2520C019, D/C 1106

LM1117SX-ADJ - these are functioning correctly, but also look suspiciously, marked JM13RC LM1117S-ADJ P+
I have 1500pcs in stock, reel and carton package seem to be original, LOT: EMAC7820C019, D/C 1118

I'll be appreciated if you could confirm whether components are original or not. I can deliver some photos if necessary.

Thanks, best regards

Tomasz Karwat

  • Confirmation of devices as being ‘Authentic TI’, or not, is beyond my authority, but here’s my two cents anyway:

The 'S' would refer to the National Semiconuctor marking for the TO-263 package.

For the "LM1941CS", a search of TI.com for 'LM1941CS' returns:

"No matches found for the selected search term (LM1941CS)"

If this is supposed to be ‘LM2941CS’, then there is a problem.

As for "LM1117S-ADJ" ... per TI.com, the device mark should be two (2) lines :

         Line 1 : LM1117S

         Line 2 : ADJ

    No dash (-), no ‘P+’.

You can confirm marking yourself by:

        1) go to the respective product folders,

             http://www.ti.com/product/lm1117-n

             http://www.ti.com/product/lm2941c

        2) scroll down to the part number in the 'Sample and Buy' table

        3) then to the right of the part number, click on 'View' Device Marking. This will take you to a new page where Device Marking information will be at the bottom of the page.

Or, go to 'Part Mark Look Up' at:

    http://www.ti.com/general/docs/partmarking/partmarkinghome.jsp

I am trying to track down the group that officially handles this type of issue.

  • Thank you Donald

right, my mistake, correct part number is LM2941CS (LM2941CSX/NOPB more precisely).

For LM2941CS marking seems to be OK, for LM1117S-ADJ not.

    But, is it even possible?:

Both LM2941S come from the same reel, but they differ.

Is there any place in Europe I could send some units for inspection ?
