BQ27510 together BQ51050 problem with Thermistor

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27510EVM, BQ27510

When I connect the TS contact from BQ27510EVM to BQ51050BEVM it stops to charge the battery. I try to short EN-TS in JP3, I try to open JP3, but nothing works. When I connect the battery thermistor directly to TS in J5, without BQ27510EVM, it works. Can I try to do anything or I am making any mistake?

  • Hello Mozart,

Looking through the EVMs they are biasing the TS line differently.

The BQ27510 TS pin expecting voltages between about 0-1V.

The BQ51050 following JEITA standards for the TS feedback back with a bias voltage of 2.2V.

When you try to short these two dissimilar temperature feedback systems problems are likely to result.

You could take one of many approaches:

    -Separate NTC's for each device

-Only connect the NTC to the BQ51050 which will ensure that the battery follows JEITA standards during charging.

-Only connect the NTC to the BQ27510 and have the temperature compensation of the gauging algorithm.

Connecting the NTC to the gauge will provide you with the most functionality since it will be utilized for the gauging and you can monitor the temperature flags on the gauge to determine if you need to shutdown the charger.
