LM5050MK-2 and dynamic load

Hello,

is there a way for LM5050MK-2 to work with dynamic loads?

We want to use LM5050MK-2 to source a motor control with redundant power supply.

But LM5050MK-2 makes trouble when switching off load immediately (falling edge of PWM).

light-blue = Drain, yellow = Source, green = Gate

light-blue = Drain, yellow = Source, green = Gate

light-blue = Drain, yellow = Source, green = Gate

I tested this advice "One trick to try is to place a 0.01uF to 0.1uF ceramic capacitor across the mosfet, drain-to-source." from another post in this forum.

Is there a solution?

Kind regards

  • Hi Marc,

    Have you tried placing a bulk cap at the output of the LM5050 to minimize the voltage transient? You may want to use the LM5050 ORing circuit connected to a DCDC converter that drives your load.

  • Hi Darwin,

    thank you for your reply. A capacitor behind the ideal diode would be a single point of failure in our redundant system. Therefore we have to position the capactitors ahead the ideal diodes.

    How do you mean "You may want to use the LM5050 ORing circuit connected to a DCDC converter that drives your load."?

    load = motor (12 V .. 48 V, max. 15 A)

    Next problem, we have, are the negative spikes of inductive load, that damages LM5050.

    Kind regards

    Marc
