UCC2891 drive Capability

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC2891

Hi,

As per the UCC2891 datasheet the OUT pin is capable of driving 2A.

However when i connect a resistive load of 10 Ohm between the OUT pin and GND to try source 1A current, the V_OUT(HIGH) drops down from 10V to nearly 5V. This indicates that the chip is capable of sourcing only (5V/10Ohm) = 0.5A current.

Can someone explain why the results are different from the datasheet specifications

  • Hi,

The capability of driving 2A is referring the  peak current.

It is not allowed to add a 10 ohm resistor between OUT and GND like you do, it will assume too much power than the IC can stand.

Because the OUT is used to drive the switching MOSFET. The load of OUT pin should be  capacitive not resistive.
