TPS55330 with a BQ24170

I'm using a TPS55330 switching regulator with a BQ24170 li-ion charger IC. The current problem occurs in the following situation:

-turn on input supply which starts charging the battery OK

-once I turn on the output to feed the switcher (no matter the load) the STAT LED on the BQ24170 starts blinking indicating a fault and the switcher fails to start.

-if the circuit is running on only battery power or only input supply (not charging the battery) the switcher starts fine.

-if I tie a load right to the vsys line (and skip the switcher) the circuit works fine.

Any thoughts on where I can start looking for issues ?
