Simple, compact 2-cell Lipo charger Power Manager with cell balancing

I'm designing a wearable device that's going to use two or more lipo-batteries (simple to re-distribute the weight), so that the battery is not in one single location and I am looking for a simple Lipo charger chip, preferably DFN package (as small as possible), where the Vbat is decoupled from the Vout, that has battery balancing. Looking out for these features:

- DFN or similar QFN/LGA package
- charge 2 Lipo cells (parallel)
- must have battery balancing
- 5V or USB equivalent charging
- ~200 - 500mA charge current typical
- minimal BOM (one or two external caps? One or two inductors? max)
- Charge LED indicator (STAT)

Any recommendations TI?

  • The charging and gas gauge/balancing is a two chip solution.  You will have to post in the GG forum to get help on that side.  We do not have any buck boost chragers at this time so one would have to design a boost charger for the 5V input and connect this to one of our chargers.  Look at the bq2413x family
