Measuring Current between two 12V 250Ah batteries with bq34z110

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z110

Hi,

I need to measure currents between two 12V lead-acid batteries (250Ah each) and need to monitor SOC and SOH of both batteries.

Is this possible with two bq34z110's?

|GND|---------|(-) BATTERY1 (+)|------SHUNT RESISTOR--------|(-) BATTERY2 (+)|---------------|LOAD|

Thanks for support!

Regards!

  • Hello Stephan,

Looking through the datasheet the key features appear to be there to suggest that you could support this application with one bq34z110:

    Chemistry matches

Capable of handling your desired capacity

    Capable of handling stacked cells

It states in the datasheet and SoC information is available.

Looking at Pg. 16 it provides some preliminary information on SoH monitoring. Along with a State of Health command on Pg. 35 of the datasheet.

Using two would be difficult since the bq34z110 for battery 2 would have to be floating which would substantially complicate your design.
