bq24610 Power dissipation question(s)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24610

I cannot find any power dissipation figures in the data sheet for the bq24610 in the 24 VQFN package. I need both how much power the IC/package is rated for AND I need to determine how much power is dissipated in the bq24610 IC during normal (fast) charging operation. I think most of the power is likely being consumed in the driver stages for the HIDRV and LODRV output. So the MOSFET's will determine some of the power consumed (how much drive is required).

Of course the amount of power the IC can dissipate is a function of layout. But it is common for IC manufactures to show a couple of layout examples along with power dissipation values.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Wally

  • This is a controller so there is not much power.  The electrical table says ~25mA for Qg of 20nC

The data sheet basically shows an overall efficiency but no specific power dissipation for the IC.

Look at the user guide for a layout example.  The IC on the EVM stays fairly cool.
