how to use TLC 5951 with Arduino to control 96 RGB LEDs

I am working on a fairly large project for one of my first projects. NAV Light system for octacopter.  2x8 RGB LED panels. One for each rotor. Mostly for Red lights up front Green lights in the middle and Blue lights In back.

each light needs to have full color control

thought of using 12- TLC 5951

200 CC RGB LEDs

Arduino uno

any help would be nice

  • Hello Walter,

Let me see if I understand you application. You want to place the LEDs on the rotors of the octacopter and have them illuminated while they are spinning?

I am not sure that is something that you will be able to do at least not with out considerable effort.

If you want to place some the these LEDs on the armature that connects the motor and blades to the central hub that is more feasible.

Please clarify what you are intending on doing for you application.

Also have you seen TI's tool LED Architect that can help you integrate multichannel LED controllers into your design by providing circuit recommendations and simulations?
