Re: Qi wireless charging, form factor issue

We are developing a ring shaped wireless, mobile device. It will have a inductive coil inside in order to wireless charge its battery according to the Qi protocol/specifications (with a primary coil on the charging table device). The Ring device will use the bq51050 chip. The (secondary) coil in the Ring device will have a diameter ranging from 14 - 23 mm.

My question is: will it be able to charge with a Qi charging table with these diameters? According to the Qi Wireless Power Transfer specifications (from its website) the primary coil designs A3, A7, A8, A12, A14, A15 and A18 should work with the Ring device (secondary) coil dimensions. Is this the right conclusion drawn?

Size and shape of the RX coil will impact the performance along with a number of other factors.  It is very difficult to predict performance with only a few parameters.  In the WPC specification the RX coil is given a great deal of freedom of design.
