LM2586-ADJ destroys transformer at low input voltage

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM2586, TPS3700

Hello,

I´m using the LM2586 to get +/-15V from a 9-36V source. This is working well, until the input voltage drops between 4-6V. In normal operation this should´t happen, but I don´t know what the customer is doing with our electronic.

So at an input voltag between 4-6 V, it seems like the LM2586 is sourcing the transformer with so much current, that the primary winding is destroyed. Due to limited space i don´t have the opportunity to use a bigger transformer.

Is there any possibility to limit the current through the transformer? Or a possibility e.g. to use the on/off pin for the case the input voltage drops below 6V?
