TPS60150 Enable Anomoly

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS60150

We are using the TPS60150 to power some misc. 5V circuitry in a low power battery operated design.  ENA is pulled LOW when the system is powered down, however, we are seeing 1.5 - 2 VDC at the output rail, and current draws of about 9 mA every 100ms.  Does ENA override "skip mode"?

  • Hi Peter,

when ENA is pulled low, the device is in shutdown mode. This is not an expected behavior.

Do you see this behavior just in your system, or did you see this on an EVM as well?

Did you use the components as shown in the Typical Application in the Datasheet?

    Regards,

    Florian

  • Hi Florian

Attached are the oscilloscope screenshots captured for the behaviour we are observing with TPS60150. The attached document provides two screenshots, ONE when device is in active mode (all power rails active), SECOND when our device goes into sleep mode (5V rail inactive).

Also we have observed that when device transitions from Active to Sleep mode the 5V rail (output of TPS60150) does not go all the way down to 0V, it just falls down to 2V from the 5V level.

  • Hi Vikas

as Florian mentioned above we expect the output to discharge completely when disabled. Could you observe this behavior on the EVM as well?

Please help me with following questions:

    • What ist connected to the output?
    • Is I_BAT completely flowing into the device or are there other devices connected to I_BAT?
    • Do you have a chance to share a schematic?

    Thanks

    Michael

    Hi Michael, Florian

I dont have a EVM with me so cannot comment on that. For other queries please refer information below

    • For information on what is connected to the output, please refer to the attached pdf block diagram
    • The net 3V6_VBAT is connected to 2 other voltage regulators alongwith TPS60150
    • The attached block diagram represents the schematic for all parts connected to output of TPS60150

Please provide your feedback at the earliest.

    Thanks

    Vikas

  • Hi Vikas,

to isolate the root cause for this behaviour, could you please measure the TPS60150 Power stage for its own.

This means disconnecting all other Devices from the Input to verify the dedicated current into the device.

The same for the output to verify the root for the remaining voltage when TPS60150 is disabled.

    Thanks

    Michael
