TPS560200 Question about having power at output when disabled.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS560200

I am planning to use a TPS560200 for its low cost and high efficiency.  My application has multiple sources of power and I am wondering if it would an option to simply connect the output of this supply to my VCC rail.  There would be a case where the TPS560200 would be disabled due to another source of power, resulting in power at the PH and VSNS pins.  Would this be OK?

  • The situation you describe is usually termed as output voltage pre-bias.  TPS560200 is designed to safely start up under pre-bias conditions.  There are two things you need to know:  The pre-bias voltage should be lower than the intended output voltage for proper start up.  Any prebias voltage may leak back to the input of the TPS560200 thru the body diode of the high side switching FET.
