BQ25015 without battery

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25015

Can the BQ25015 supply the same amount of current without the battery plugged in, but with USB plugged in?

  • Hello Jason,

The P-FETs that connect the USB and AC adapter inputs have the same current rating as the high-side FET on the half H-Bridge going to the SW node.
Since the dc-dc output current at 300mA is lower than than the 500mA input current limits present on the AC adapter and USB inputs the converter is the current limiting element.

With that in mind the device can support 300mA on the dc-dc output regardless of the source. However keep in mind that the device will heat up more when this power is sourced from the USB or AC adapter since it will be passing through the additional resistance of the internal P-FET.
